Update: Effective 1 Sept 2019 (applies to new applicants only)
BRGA is currently experiencing a high demand for Greyhounds that are cat friendly, small dog (<25 lbs) friendly, and suitable for homes with young children (<8 yrs). At this time the only source of greyhounds we feel comfortable adopting to families with children and small animals is our prison program since those hounds go through a rigorous assessment and training program. Therefore, at this time, we are only accepting prison hound applications from families with young children (<8 yrs) or small pets (cats, dogs <25 lb, etc.). Limited spaces are available. To learn more about the prison program check out the link below:
We want to reiterate that putting these restrictions on standard adoptions is not a matter of saying that a greyhound cannot live with kids or small dogs or cats, but that our non-prison program sources cannot adequately assess these factors for us to feel comfortable placing a dog in those households.
Please feel free to check back with us again. We will continue to monitor the situation and plan to remove this restriction on standard adoptions when we feel comfortable with our ability to assess those hounds. We sincerely apologize for the change.
